Transitional Games From Dinner to Dance

Building and ramping energy from the cocktail hour right through to the reception dance part of the night is critical to the success of your wedding celebration. The goal is to keep your guests involved and engaged. Once dinner is completed, instead of just moving into the reception feature dances and open dancing, it works really well to have a transitional activity or two to keep people involved and engaged.

Here are some excellent transitional activities/games that can work really well:

Wedding Party Musical Chairs/Scavenger Hunt- The game takes 5 minutes to play but literally involves everyone, not just the wedding party. The wedding party sit in chairs lined up on the dance floor, and the DJ calls out an item for them to find amongst the guests. The last one back to their chair is out. This is the MOST REQUESTED activity at our weddings. Items include things like a belt, stick of gum, a sock, you get the idea! Tons of fun that engages everyone, not just the newlyweds.

Shoe Game/Match Game- Another quick 5 minute game, but this one only involves the couple. Your DJ/MC will ask questions to the couple, they will raise the correct shoe, and we will see if we have a match. The DJ/MC will ask about 30-50 questions.

Kids Interaction with Candy Toss- Do you have kids coming to your celebration? Kids are often overlooked, but if you have them in attendance, have your DJ/MC do about 15 minutes of kids interaction with them and close it out with a candy toss to all of the kids.

Mission Impossible Photo Race- Following dinner, have your photographer follow you from table to table, getting a picture with each table, all set to fun, upbeat music. The idea here is that your guests are moving around, and you'll get a picture with them when get your pics back from your photographer. So much fun!
